Sanding The floor
Select proper grit screen discs for the application.
- Grit #100/Fine Minimal amount of surface scratches and previous
floor finish to be removed.
-Grit #80/Medium-Liberal amount of surface scratches and previous
floor finish to be removed.
Remove screen mesh disc from carton and place on the floor near
a
wall running parallel to the strip flooring or along the longest
wall of a
room covered with parquet flooring. (Fig. #1).
Place floor buffer, with drive pad holder and nylon scrub pad
attached,
squarely over the screen mesh disc.
Nylon pad and screen disc must be centered on themselves as
well as
centered on the buffer. (Fig. #2).
Begin sanding a small area, moving the floor machine in a straight
line
with the direction of the grain, overlapping on each new pass
to provide
uniform sanding of the surface. (Fig.#3). As the operator continues
sanding across the floor, a dulling of the gloss will be noticed
in those
areas previously sanded. When the dulling effect becomes less
apparent
than the effect originally noticed, remove the disc and flex
it to clean
trapped particles of finish. If flexing does not restore proper
cutting action,
remove disc and use the opposite side until fresh side no longer
provides
effective cutting action.
(note: average cove rag e of a screen disks 250 sq. ft. per
side.)
When all sanding with the floor machine is completed, use old
screen
folded in half to sand those areas near base boards and in other
areas
the floor machine was unable to reach.
Final Preparation
Upon completion of all sanding operations, sweep or vacuum the
entire
floor surface to remove dust and debris. Prior to applying the
floor finish,
tack rag the entire floor surface at least twice to remove any
particles
or dust remaining.
Between coats of floor finish Grit #100 Screen Discs can be
used to
buff the floor as preparation for subsequent coating.
Follow all recommended application procedures listed on the
floor
finish container.
